Special Agent Shane Winder graduated from Southern Oregon University in 1994 with a B.S. in Criminology, and earned a commission as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1994 to 1999. Shane began his law enforcement career as a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service in 2002. In addition to passport and visa fraud investigative duties, Shane worked protective details covering the U.S. Secretary of State to the Dalai Lama. In 2004, Shane accepted a lateral move to the U.S. Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General. Shane worked cases involving workers’ compensation fraud, narcotics, mail theft, and health care provider fraud. In 2010, Shane moved to the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General. Shane has worked numerous benefit fraud investigations, and multiple assumed, fictitious, and stolen identity cases. Agent Winder is also the co-founder of the Social Services Fraud Working Group. Additionally, Shane is the SSA OIG Seattle Division’s Lead Control Tactics Instructor, and Lead Technical Agent.
